    We have been to Orvieto and loved it although it was only a day visit, Perugia and Castiglione del Lago as well. Less packing and carting luggage. Duomo and firenze card. I would start with Florence no car of course , then rent a car and drive along the lovely Chianti road, stay somewhere close to magical Siena, drive to Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza... I dislike Florence as a city, but quite enjoyed Volterra. This Roman and Etruscan town is located on a remarkable rocky promontory and is a wonderful, atmospheric, uncrowded alternative to the more popular tourist sites.
